About Elizabeth City State University

Elizabeth City State University, also known as ECSU, is a four-year, public, historically African-American college, located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, in the United States and was established in 1891. Today, the institution offers its students 36 baccalaureate degrees, four master's degrees in Elementary Education, Biology, Mathematics, and School Administration, and a doctor of pharmacy degree in collaboration with the Eshelman School of Pharmacy (UNC Chapel Hillis).

In 2007, ECSU was ranked on the 1st place by Diverse Issues in Higher Education, among Historically Black Colleges, and in 2009, the Magazine ranked ECSU on the second place in the Top Public Baccalaureate Colleges (South) category and on the 11th place among the nation's Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Elizabeth City State University's athletic teams are called The Vikings, and they compete in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and NCAA Division II, in several sports, for both men and women. In 2007, the ECSU football team has been listed on the 12th place in Street and Smith Magazine College Preseason Poll. Their official colors are royal blue and white.

The Elizabeth City State University has produced thousands of alumni, many of them being appointed notable alumni, such as: Reggie Langhorne - former NFL wide receiver, Larry Johnson, Sr. - former NFL linebacker, Kenny Williams - A former professional basketball player, among others.
